I am so excited to be on the blog hop for Sharon Holland’s new book, Utility-Style, Quilts for Everyday Living. Sharon designs amazing fabrics for Art Gallery Fabrics so I wasn’t surprised at how amazing her book was when it showed up on my doorstep. I am so excited to share what I made with you with a big huge GO GET THIS BOOK NOW in everything I say. Sharon and the Landauer Publishing Team have done an outstanding job. She even has the cutest free pattern just for you to celebrate the book!
So let me tell you the story of this amazing quilt. I have seriously fallen in love with this quilt, the colors, and what is means to the person I am gifting it to. One of my husband’s partners is a young attorney married to another beautiful young attorney and they both have the monogram JJJ and they are expecting a baby boy which will also have the monogram of JJJ. When my kids were little I remember my oldest saying, “that family really love the letter J!” Yes they do and we love them so very much.
I asked the expecting mother for a dress shirt of her husband. I wanted to incorporate it into the design. She mentioned the nursery was navy and white so I started there pulling fabrics. I stuck to that color pallet but I kept thinking it needed more of something. So Lucy, my local sewing buddy, suggested a golden yellow and it was just the right addition. I love navy and yellow so much and think it adds the perfect amount of contrast for the navy and white.
There are so many things in the book that I wanted to make. I also wanted to read all of the stories of the quilts and look at the awesome pictures. This book was so beautiful and full of great projects. What I really loved about the book was the variety of sizes and the variety of fabrics used in the projects. This is a perfect book to raid your fabric stash or use a bundle.
