Andrea Tsang Jackson, of 3rd Story Workshop, is my guest today on the Modern Sewciety Podcast. I first noticed Andrea’s work on instagram and instantly fell in love with her unique style and patterns. She recently released patterns for her unique gemstone patterns that she has been selling for some time now at crafts shows. We chat about her background and how she started her business, 3rd Story Workshop, and what she is looking forward to in the future. We also talk about the ups and downs of releasing your own patterns, selling your own sewn items, and trying to figure out how to price goods for sale. Andrea is such an amazing creative and I know you are going to enjoy this chat as much as I did. click on the link to listen.
Stephanie Kendron chats with Michelle Bartholomew about all things sewing. I met Michelle in real life at Quiltcon in Savannah, Ga this year. A group of us met up at an oyster bar one night and Michelle tried oysters for the first time. I am not lying when I say there were so many laughs that night mixed with a lot of quilt talk. I invited Michelle on to talk about her adventure into pattern design for her own brand and collaborating with friends in the industry for Quilt Theory. I also ask a ton of questions about her tiny house that she used to call home, her fabric stash, and newsletters. You won’t want to miss this episode. I love the creatives in our industry that see something missing and fill that gap. The online duo, Rachel and Kate, from The Fold Line did just that. They saw something they wanted and decided to build an online pattern database with loads of resources, patters, and information. It is like a one stop awesome shop for anything a garment sewing and it is so simple to use. I chatted with Kate, as Rachel is still rocking a job elsewhere, about how it all started, what some of the pros and cons to tackling a dream like this, and what they have to offer their users. And Kate’s voice is so soothing to me which made it even a cooler chat. I hope you will tune in and be inspired just like I am.
I invited two of my favorite podcasters on the show to chat about business, newsletters, and everything in between. I loved everything about these chats and I know you will too. Abby Glassenberg, from While She Naps and Craft Industry Alliance, really talks the nitty gritty of podcasting, blog numbers, making money, and, of course, newsletters. Rachel, from Maker Style, is a college student with a blog and podcast that I love. She is really on fire these days. I can’t wait for you to learn more about these ladies and get some inside information on what is working for us and what is not. Click the blog title to learn more.
