ModSew:: Feathers Foundation Paper Piecing Pattern by The Sometimes Crafter

Oh how I love this bag and it is all because of that feather! I have been asking my friend Christina from The Sometimes Crafter for the pattern I kept seeing her make. She kept telling me in was on her to do list. I am persistent. I don’t know if it was me bugging her for the pattern EVERY TIME she posted one of these feather or it just got to the time to check it off of her to do list. Whatever the reason I am so so happy.

I tested the pattern for her and I looked at it a lot… I never knew how meticulous I was about reading something and picking it apart but I discovered I am really good at it:) But that is what a pattern tester does. I wanted this pattern to be what Christina wanted it to be. I wanted to be a good tester.

And then I made my first feather while not READING the pattern like I should have and goofed. BIG TIME. Yea the back of the bag has my mistake feather… I liked it though. I really like to remind myself to pay attention to things more because it shows when you do and when you don’t. Yep like the feather that isn’t a feather up there. So that my friends is what happens when you think you know what you are doing and don’t pay attention to the pattern.

Okay moving on. I really love a pocket on a bag. I like it for keys, phone, anything. It comes in handy. So that awesome Sarah Jane rocket fabric from her children at play line it was. I mean it makes me so happy to look at that fabric.

I love how delicate the stem on the feather is. I love that when you paper piece you can get that look in a block… something small and delicate.

I just added simple green polka dot handles to the bag. I didn’t even add interfacing. I just wanted something easy to carry and not heavy.

I wanted a scrappy feather for some reason. I don’t really know why but I knew immediately that is what I wanted so to my scraps I went. I found some rockets, donkeys in rain boots, bicycles, and more polka dots.

The quilting is just some straight lines in groups of three. Simple and not overly quilted but enough to make it stay and give some structure. I used a linen/burlap I had leftover from the Florida Wildflower Bag I made Carolyn.
