Review:: The Unofficial Downton Abbey Sews & a giveaway

The Unofficial Downton Abbey Sews - magazine cover artWe all know how much I love Downton Abbey! I am on pins and needles waiting for the new season to air but that isn’t until January for us in the States. So to ease the pain, Interweave has a new publication out that is all about Downton Abbey, The Unofficial Downton Abbey Sews magazine. It is full of everything Downton and there are some great projects to make in the magazine. I really want the cover dress to wear around and pretend I am Lady Mary or something. You know while the Staff cleans my mansion and makes me lunch. Oh wait that won’t happen as much as I want to pretend. 🙂

The folks over at Andover have the awesome Downton Abbey fabric collection as well and it is featured in the magazine. There is a great table runner pattern in the book with the Andover fabrics so I thought why not just have a giveaway to get you started on that project.

thoughts on the online community, giveaways, and winners

Sometimes I think I need pictures to post on here. I need to have super edited and beautiful pictures. Alas not today just my thoughts. I can’t tell you how awesome this online, especially the sewing, community can be. I have the nicest people that comment and email me about the blog and podcast, people who leave love on instagram, and when I ask for help for the Zeller family so many ask how they can help out. How cool is that?!?! And then I have those that respond to my emails asking them to come on the podcast to chat. I can’t thank them enough. And there is Jennifer that with all she has going on with her own family, blog (Ellison Lane), and Sew South made time to chat about Downton Abbey. I makes me wonder if I am being kind enough to others. If I am doing enough for others. If I am using my talents to help others. I hope so. I really do. I think you guys are so great.

I put up a call for those to help make quilts for the Zeller family on instagram. If you don’t know their story, please read this post. I think we have enough who are going to help but then others wanted to help but not make quilts. I get that. Time is precious and sometimes we just don’t have the extra time. So if you would like to help then shoot me an email. I think showering them with love no matter what we send is awesome. I think pillowcases, doll quilts, pouches, handmade toys, etc would all be awesome to send them. Heck even some embellished hand towels. Every time they would look at these things in their home they will see hope. They will see kindness. They will see color to help brighten their world.

And then there are the people you meet online that you connect with and feel like you are instant friends. I have had that happen a lot lately. Take Julia from My Rainboots are Red. And Nathalie from Nathalie Bearden. And Ellyn from Ellyn’s place who leaves comments on the blog which make my day. I have seriously felt so much love and kindness from each and every one of you. I can’t stop having people on the podcast because there is always someone I want to chat with and get to know a little more. I love getting to know you. I love allowing you to hear your favorite bloggers laugh, voice, and passion. It is so cool. So stay tuned and hold on because there are some awesome people coming on the podcast. I don’t know how I am going to keep up but I will find a way. Somehow. Someway.

Okay talk to you guys soon.

Giveaway:: Downton Abbey fabric collection by Andover

Hello!

Jennifer Mathis and I have so enjoyed chatting about season 4 of Downton Abbey. We fell in love with Mary in a whole new way, laughed at the Dowager Countess countless times with her one liners, gave Tom a second chance, wondered when someone/anyone would say something to the wild and mischievous Rose, and rooted for Mrs. Crawley as she came back with gusto after the loss of her son Mathew. As for the downstairs we love them all, well, except for Thomas. Can I get an amen on that one?!?!?!

I knew there was a Downton Abbey fabric line from Andover so I contacted them to see about a giveaway for the finale of season 4. I hate to say this out loud but the time has come and now we are waiting for season 5. The wait will give some time to sew and what better then to sew something up with fabric inspired by our favorite show, Downton Abbey. The collection is the women’s collection (I am so hoping for a men’s collection) and features fabrics that go along with each lady and their style and personality.

I really loved Sybil and have to say that her fabric collection is one of my favorites. I love the fabric in the middle in the picture above. I think they are so modern, tribal, but also classic and with just enough flash like Sybil. I am loving the colors in this collection as well because my color of the now is emerald green or any green for that matter. I like the mixing of the greens, blues, purplish pinks with a tad of yellow. I need a tunic out of the green middle fabric like right now.

As I look at the Sybil collection it makes me think of all of the jewel tones you see in Downton. They use them so well but they also don’t get shy about when and where. The setting as well as the clothes the characters wear are one thing we all love about Downton Abbey. I want that red sofa so bad I can picture me sitting on it.

Leave me a comment and let me know and I will pick someone to win some of the fabrics from the collection courtesy of Andover Fabrics.  I wanted to keep this one simple and sweet just like the times of Downton Abbey. 🙂
