Featured Blogger:: Sara from Sew Sweetness – Big City Bags

Today I want to let you know about Sara’s new book Big City Bags. Sara has written an entire book on bags from patterns to interfacing for beginners to advanced. I love how Sara writes her patterns so this is a no brainer purchase if you love to make bags. Sara really knows how to write a bag pattern that you understand. She has really fit a lot of different styles and sizes of bags into this book. Take a peek below at some of the pictures of some of the patterns.

I am really loving the bag below for my kids. I think it would make a great case for them to carry there things to the restaurant or to church to keep them occupied but not lugging around something too big. Maybe in a cute kids fabric like Sarah Jane’s new line Wee Wander. (can you tell I am obsessed with SJS yet:)

I also think this would look awesome in a tweed for the guy in your life. I mean I think I would want one in tweed with leather handles. yes please.

Pick up a copy at your local bookstore or amazon HERE OR go to Sara’s store and get an autographed copy!!!!

Do you have Big City Bags yet? Let me know what you plan on making! I would love to know.

Featured Blogger:: Sara from Sew Sweetness’s blog series

Today we are going to talk a little bit about the different series Sara has on her blog. We talked about one of these on the podcast so I will start with that one… the PURSE PALOOZA! I think this is such a great thing that Sara has done for the past two years. She invites other bloggers and sewists to pick a bag pattern to review, it doesn’t have to be a Sew Sweetness pattern, and they blog about their experience with the pattern. It is really neat to see the different patterns and how everyone interprets them differently. She has a great comment on her blog [pullquote width=300 float=left][/pullquote]Jennifer Paganelli has a great quote about this, “There is room enough for all of us, and you are right where you are supposed to be.” Sara practices this by extending her hand to the community in which she is involved and doesn’t view others as competition but as friends and colleagues. I love it.

Okay the Purse palooza (this info is from Sara’s blog) If you want to see the post you click the link and search the bag they made or head to Sara’s blog to see the post)

Hop on over to Sara’s blog or any of the contributor’s above and check out their work. Some amazing talent and such inspiration for anyone that sews. I love to see that some are strict patterns followers and some made modifications. I love that and I think I fit somewhere in the middle.

The next is the Tula Pink 100 Modern Blocks Quilt Along she is participating in with Emily of Crazy Old Ladies Quilts, Julie of Jaybird Quilts, Gina of ginapina, and Kim of My Go-Go Life. Awesome group huh? I think so too.

Isn’t that the cutest blog homepage ever. I love it. For those of you who aren’t familiar with Sara, she is the brains behind Sew Sweetness which she started blogging at in 2010. She began as just a wife and mom who started sewing and really enjoyed it. She started by sewing others patterns and work with Pellon. She quickly learned she really liked making bags but more importantly designing them. She really wanted to put patterns out there that helped the everyday sewist with patterns full of great instructions and pictures of each step. She is also the author to a new book, Big City Bags, which is chock full of bag inspiration. You should really check it out.
