I really enjoyed chatting with Liesl on the Modern Sewciety podcast, episode 023. When I started podcasting I know she was someone I HAD to have on the show. I have heard her on several other podcasts and creative bug. She is so sweet and you can instantly tell she really wants others to learn to sew. She is passionate about teaching others techniques that will allow them to sew professional looking clothing.

So let’s chat more about Liesl the lady behind Oliver + s, Lisette, Straight Stitch Society, Liesl + co. AND she has several fabric lines. She is one talented lady.

Oliver + s is just one branch of the many things she does but I will say that this is how I came to know Liesl. My oldest daughter is about the same age as Liesl’s daughter. I remember having this little girl I wanted to sew for and Oliver + s was so classic. I loved everything about her patterns and I loved how she shared so much information on her blog. With her patterns you will learn so many terms and techniques that you may not have known because Liesl doesn’t just want you to make something with her patterns but she wants you to become better at making your own clothing.

When you need help while making a pattern she has an amazing discussion board on her website. She has a large number of people that help one another with the patterns. I think this is a priceless asset to buying a pattern from Oliver + s, Lisette, or Liesl + co.

She has some amazing free tutorials on her website as well and the Popover Sundress is one of her most popular tutorials. I read on her blog that this pattern gets downloaded over 4,000 times a month. That is amazing. So go check it out and I know you will not be disappointed.

One thing I think is scary for some of us is making our own muslin. It seems so intimating and well daunting. I think you should poke around on Liesl’s website because she is always trying to make things easier to understand like this tutorial on how to make a muslin.

One thing I LOVE about Liesl is how she post the best things are on her blog like how to make a narrow hem even easier. Okay I don’t know about you but I do not like narrow hems… they scare me so much. I think this trick from Liesl made me think I should give it a try. She uses Ban-Rol to make a perfect narrow hem so much less intimidating.

And I have to say she has one of the best tutorial pages ever. Anything you need to know about sewing clothing is there and so easy to find. I love easy to find.
