Handmade Holiday:: Travel Stitching

handmade-holiday stitched

I have been away from my sewing machine more than I would like lately. I usually have a project to take along with me but I have finished all of the ones in my take along bag. I find that I yearn for something to keep my hands occupied and busy. Okay maybe I should be honest and say that when I have something to stitch I don’t have to talk to too many people. I know I am not the only one like that. I know all of the other introverts get that statement.

I have been looking around for a quick holiday themed project. I really would like to have more handmade things to one day give to my girls for their first Christmas tree. I know, I know that is so far away but if I start now with a deadline that far away they might just have enough for a Charlie Brown tree. Ha.

Here are some fun cross stitch projects I found that look super cute and quick.

Stitch the Halls just looks like an amazing book. I mean that cover is amazing. Sophie Simpson of What Delilah Did has other cute titles as well such as Secret Garden Embroidery and Storyland Cross Stitch. They all look like amazing books and they are even available on kindle.

Next up are the amazing ladies, Amanda & Ashleigh, of The Frosted Pumpkin Stitchery. I was lucky enough to hang out with these ladies at QuiltBliss and they totally blew me away with their designs. I really love their kits that include everything you need to make something super cute to display when you are decking the halls. I find that if I get a kit that has everything I need to throw in my take along bag I will finish it and not get discouraged or run out of something.

The one that caught my eye for Christmas is the A Very Merry Christmas Town which would be perfect to frame when finished.  They seriously have a shop full of things to stitch for every season, occasion, or, well, just anything your heart desires.

The last, but certainly not least, is this cute ornament from Red Gate Stitchery. I love this Etsy shop so much that I mentioned it in my latest newsletter, The Stych. (If you aren’t sewscribing to The Stych you are missing out. Go sew scribe now, I promise you will be glad you did.)

I think this is a small enough project that I could work on them and feel like I accomplished something. Sometimes that feels so good to just finish a project fast. I also think my girls would enjoy working on these as well. I think they would want to paint them first because girls like to paint in this house. We paint anything and everything.

I hope you are inspired to stitch up some projects for the holidays. I know I can’t wait to have more handmade in my holidays.
