MS episode 131:: HollyAnne Knight of String and Story

art 131 string and story

My guest today is HollyAnne Knight from String and Story. I got to meet HollyAnne in person at Quiltcon in Savannah, Ga. We quickly started chatting all about fabric, quilts, sewing, and podcasts. She needed to charge her phone and several of us were in the podcast booth hanging out so HollyAnne joined us. That little group of amazing people in that booth watching everyone walk by us was so much fun. Maybe one of my favorite parts of the whole trip. HollyAnne is a quilter who shares her love of mastering techniques with her blog readers. She also has several new eBooks out as well. As if that isn’t enough to keep her busy she also helps with a charity that is near and dear to her heart, Quilts for Cure. You will find out all about HollyAnne and her journey into quilting in this episode. Click the link to listen.

Quiltcon2017 recap with Suzy Quilts

Suzy from Suzy Quilts and I met up in Savannah, Ga to attend #Quiltcon2017. Suzy has attended Quiltcon before but this was my first time. We chat about what we loved and what we wished had been different. We also tell the crazy story of what happened with our airbnb because we hope that it will help others if they are ever in the same situation. We also talk about having a business in the sewing industry. Suzy has been an amazing friend to me since we met and we often talk about business. Okay we talk about business all of the time and I wanted to share some of our chat with you as well. It is an episode packed with so much great information.

Let’s get our SEWING MOJO back with Suzy Quilts

get your sewing mojo

I love to fire up my brain before I really start working on a serious project. I mean it is hard enough to cut into a perfect piece of fabric, amiright? So I like to do things that warm me up and get my brain focused. Suzy Quilts has a new series, Sewing Mojo, that is just for those times you need a small project to get you focused again. It is super fast or you can take your time with the quilting like I did but one thing it does it give you the freedom to just sew and relax. I didn’t follow the pattern exactly and I think that is the point… use it as a guide to make something creative or use it to make something exactly like the pattern. Explore and have fun with it.

I decided to make mine in one color story of yellows. I think I may do the next one in another color story and have a rainbow effect when I am finished. I think the girls will like that. I did some improv piecing and left the edges raw on two sides to give it texture. The stitching is a mixture of hand quilting, machine quilting, and some added yarn for even more texture. I thought of it like an art piece and had so much fun exploring different stitches.

Hop on over to Suzy Quilts’ to see the amazing mini’s everyone made for Sewing Mojo #1. I mean I feel like a fish out of water in this pond of awesome fish. Whoa there is major talent on that post. And get your Sewing Mojo pattern for the amazing price of $5. And if you sign up for Suzy Quilt’s newsletter while you are there then you will get a coupon code for her shop!!!!! Seriously sign up.
