top 5 podcasts for creatives-2

I love listening to a podcast while I am being creative. Whether I am sewing, drawing, painting or prepping for a new project I always like to have a podcast playing. When I listen to podcast I get so many ideas for growing my business and I also hear of the stories of overcoming the failures and mistakes. Overcoming in general is something I struggle with in my business so listening to inspiring stories really helps me get out of my own head. I often hear of how another business owner overcomes their set backs and think about how I can incorporate something similar to my own business.

This is a list of the top 5 podcasts I listen to while I create. I like to have diversity in my listening because I don’t always feel the same while being creative. It is great to have a good variety so no matter your mood you have something to listen to while you work.

Number 5

thesimpleshow

The Simple Show with Tsh Oxenreider has had several different versions in its podcast life. Tsh traveled the world with her husband and kids for a year which has been the focus for the past year or so of the podcast but the most recent change in the podcast is she chats with the same couple of people on different topics each episode. Now I don’t want to travel the world with my kids, well maybe a little after listening to this show, but I do love all of the different topics discussed on the show. I often get book recommendations, new apps, products, conferences and even discover things happening in the blogosphere that I might not have heard of otherwise. I really think you should check out the show. Tsh also has several amazing books you might enjoy as well found here.

Number 4

CYOP

Creating Your Own Path with Jennifer E. Snyder is all about the stories of creatives who are forging their own paths to create a business they love. Jennifer does a great job on her interviews with questions that really open up the ups and downs of owning your own creative business. The audio quality is great as well. She always has a variety of creatives on the show, some of which I have never heard of, which I love. Finding new products or businesses that I can use in my own business and life is so much fun.

Number 3

of a kind

Of A Kind with Claire and Erica is a podcast from the popular website Of A Kind which features one of a kind pieces from featured designers. The podcast is often Claire and Erica chatting about the things they are excited about or they have a guest on to chat about their business. I think of these ladies as the cool kids who know about a lot of neat stuff that I otherwise would never know about. I enjoy the interviews with guests but their regular chats about books and products are fun too. They have some super unique finds in their well curated shop.

Number 2

one part plant podcast

The One Part Podcast with Jessica Murnane is one of my favorites at the moment. Like the Of A Kind podcast I often don’t know anything about her guest before listening but find myself following them after the chat. Jessica is very open with her guests about her own life and does a great job of getting the guest to open up as well. I love the raw, no excuses, style of Jessica’s interviews which make me feel so normal while listening. Oh she does that, says that, thinks that, makes that, etc are thoughts I often have while listening to this podcast. Jessica’s mission is to get everyone to eat one plant based meal each day, and while I am not there yet, I do think about it more than I used to. I don’t think she is super pushy about her mission which I love and the podcast focuses on a variety of topics not just cooking. The show definitely has a great variety of guests on each week. Jessica also has a new book out, One Part Plant.

Number 1

hashtag authentic

Saving the best for last is fun! Wait no more because I am so excited to share the podcast Hashtag Authentic with Sara Tasker. Sara is the creative behind the very popular blog Me and Orla. Sara is leading the charge on sponsored content on social media. She has a huge following and has really learned what it takes to grow your following and how to work with brands while staying authentic. She has guests on to chat about their own business and what they are doing as a creative to create a brand they are proud of creating. I love Sara’s British accent and her love for sharing the everyday in a truly extraordinary way. I have learned so much from listening to this podcast, many are simple changes that don’t take a lot of time and research. This is a must listen for any creative who loves Instagram.

I hope you enjoyed the list! If you haven’t listened to my podcast I would love for you to check it out. The Modern Sewciety podcast gallery is full of over a 100 episodes of chats with creatives in the sewing industry.
